Nina MacLaughlin, Spoon-carving workshop (Day 2)

In this unique, two-day workshop (part of the New Commons Project’s consideration of the CANOE), participants will learn to carve a wooden spoon from blank to finished object. Along the way, Nina MacLaughlin will be on hand for individual guidance. All materials provided and included in fee. Limited to twelve participants. [Fee waived for enrolled UMF students and for up to two low-income community members.] $60 includes one prepared blank and two spoon-carving tools.
Nina MacLaughlin is the author of Hammer Head: The Making of a Carpenter (Norton, 2016) and Wake, Siren (FSG, November 2019). She grew up in Massachusetts and lives in Cambridge, where she works as a carpenter. Formerly an editor at the Boston Phoenix, she is now also the book reviewer for the Boston Globe. Her writing appears in the Believer, Bookslut, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and elsewhere.
